As far as we know enough info about new generation of BMW it's high time to make a general post for the car, moreover the official information has been released. Additionally I would like to observe the new BMW i8 Spyder concept, which is based on the i8 coupe. The i8 Spyder in comparison to its coupe cousin is believed to be a few steps closer to the production models that we will see on sale.

The i8 Spyder as its coupe-cousin is a plug-in through-the-road hybrid with a 96 kW (131 horsepower) electric motor up front powering the front axle and a mid-mounted turbocharged three-cylinder gas engine (presumably with a displacement of 1.5 liters like the coupe) producing 223 hp that powers the rear. Both engines produce total 354 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque what allows the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62 m/h) just in 5 seconds. A pack of lithium-ion batteries are located in a central tunnel between the two power sources. The Spyder can pass about 19 miles using electricity charge and then the gas engine turns on with the fuel consumption of 94 miles per gallon.

The distinctive peculiarity of the car is the balance in everything. Due to its power sources placed in the back and front of the car it may be FWD, RWD or AWD if you wish. Moreover the perfect 50:50 weight distribution achieved thanks to lightweight materials like carbon and aluminum.

However, if you are familiar with the coupe model, reading everything listed above you might think that I speak about the i8 Coupe. But I do not. Now it's high time to explain you the major differences of the i8 Spyder from the Coupe. The i8 Spyder's wheelbase is slightly shorter and overall length is so. Of course there is much about its design, for example the Spyder's windowless upward-swiveling doors and a two-section folding roof, interior with warmer colors and many others minor details.
