Supporting the multitude of tactical fighting vehicles on the front line is no easy task. It requires something larger - something that is capable of transporting supplies into battle, and wounded vehicles out.
After many years of faithful service, the LVS was replaced in 2009 by the LVSR, Logistics Vehicle System Replacement. This new model sports a 10-wheel-drive system and features Oshkosh's proven TAK-4 fully independent suspension. Also new for the LVSR are an improved weapons turret powered by an electric motor, and integrated vehicle armor with the ability to add more.
With a 22.5-ton on-road and 16.5-ton off-road payload capacity and power from a 600hp Caterpillar C15 diesel engine, the LVSR has the capacity and power to carry whatever the mission requires. It can haul flatracks, ISO shipping containers, bridging equipment, boats, fuel containers, and much more.
It even has the ability to load and unload flatracks from trailers with all the adapters and lift hardware stored on the vehicle, providing immediate operational availability. For the ultimate in versatility, the LVSR is available in three variations: the MKR15 Wrecker, MKR16 Tractor, and MKR18 Cargo.
The MKR15 Wrecker provides the ability to reach and recover vehicles in the harshest of terrain. A front-mounted 20,000-pound self-recovery winch, rear-mounted winches with 78,000 pounds of combined rating, and the ability to lift and tow 96,000 pounds of dead vehicle makes the MKR15 perfectly suited to recovering HMMWVs, MRAPs, and even other LVSRs that have become incapacitated in some form.
Next in the lineup is the MKR16 Tractor, which is set up to haul equipment. Equipped with a 25.3-ton-capacity fifth-wheel hitch and 60,000-pound winch, the MKR16 has the ability to haul semi-trailers, heavy engineer equipment, and combat vehicles deep into hostile territory. Rounding out the tri-fecta is the MKR18 Cargo, which has all the same mechanical functionality as the MKR15 but lacks the recovery equipment.
Engineered for the most extreme conditions, the TAK-4 independent suspension system takes ride quality, mobility, and maneuverability to the next level. This battle-tested suspension system allows the LVSR to quickly execute missions, getting its crew back to safety quicker than ever before.
