It seems that Honda is about to have big changes. Soon the Japanese automaker unveils a new "Earth Dreams" family of engines and introduces its CVT transmission.

And I’d like to begin with the most interesting thing – the Honda’s new family of engines called “Earth Dreams”. The new engines will feature direct-injection with dual overhead cam and will improve fuel economy by 10-percent.

Besides, there is a possibility of getting a 1.6-liter diesel engine with 220 pound feet of torque – a good powertrain for a lightweight city Honda.

To transfer the power from the engine to the wheels Honda is going to use a Continuously Variable Transmissions, but not every vehicle in the Honda’s lineup will get a CVT, as the report states that "performance models and off-road vehicles will retain geared transmissions."
To refresh it’s lineup Honda is going to refresh the Pilot, which will get in 2014 a new 3.5-liter Earth Dreams V6 which produces 310 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, and a CVT is also part of the program, but only on front-drive models.

As for the last Honda’s fail (yes, I speak about the 9th Civic) it’s going to be changed too, as its launch triggered a lackluster response from critics.

Automotive News highlights the possibility of reviving the S2000 to compete with the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ, however, it’s not a priority for the Japanese automaker.
