Motor-racing track Esoril (Port. Autódromo do Estoril) is a race course, situated in Portugal, on which Grand Prix of Portugal took place in 1984—1996. The official name is Autódromo Fernanda Pires da Silva.
Motor-racing track Estoril was built in 1972 on the table land not far from the town of Estoril. The track consists of a long straight way and two turn complexes periodically changed (the motor-race reminds the track Catalunya by its configuration).
A lot of races in minor formulas and competitions MotoGP are taking place on the motor-racing track at the moment.
At the time of our visit there were not any races and test drives on the track. Only the manager of the driving school was working. Even the souvenirs shops were closed. Whereas two more tourists’ cars arrived together with us and I think the tourists were also ready to buy formula souvenirs.
The memorial to Ayrton Senna is in front of the general entrance.
The town of Estoril itself did not make a great impression on us, though it is considered to be fashionable. There is a small crowded beach where you should go through the tunnel under the road. There are also five stars hotels, and the Casino as in French Nice, many boutiques and automobile salons, but we felt more comfortable in small onshore resorts. However it’s only our opinion.
“Gates of Hell” so called (Port. Boca do Inferno) is one of the most frequented sights in Estoril. It is a small gorge, which sea waves burst into in rough weather and there is a continual humming noise due to it.
From Estoril we headed for the most western point of Europe Cape Roca (Port. Cabo da Roca). Tourists are also quite numberless. There is an arranged parking free of charge, a souvenir store. The wind is very strong. The high bluff coast and there is a bas-relief in front of which all people try to take photos. The coordinates of this place are written on it, confirming scientifically, that it is the most western point of Europe. As they said in the past here, it is the uttermost point of the earth, and further is only the sea.
