You know, there are different ways of making a hybrid. Usually a manufacturer takes simple not powerful engine with small displacement and attaches an electromotor to it just to compensate low power-efficiency. Many do so, but Ferrari and Porsche are not the many, they hit another way. Their hybrid systems must be not just fuel-efficient, but even powerful than its petrol analogues. To demonstrate it the engineers of Ferrari demonstrated HY-KERS 2012 system at the Beijing Auto Show.
The HY-KERS is composed of two electromotors, block of power electronics and pack of batteries. An automobile is driven with the traction engine through 7-speed transmission. Another engine which is smaller and weaker is used as power source for on-board equippement.
New hybrid system became real thanks to recuperative systems of F1 bolids. It’s expected that the usage of the system will reduce CO2 emission by 40%.
