400 HP Audi RS4-Powered Volkswagen Transporter Goes Drag Racing
The V8-motivated Audi RS4 has always been a delightful performance machine harmed by its nose-heavy handling. But what if you installed the RS4 hardware in a machine where such matters are not all that important?
Let's think of the RS4 goodies landing in a Volkswagen Transporter, for instance. In fact, we don't have to turn to our imagination for such a heart transplant, as the piece of footage at the bottom of the page offers just that.
The video brings us a T5 Transporter whose engine compartment now accommodates an RS4 V8. And since the T5 was only retired last summer, we're talking about a sparkling new result here. Sure, this is still one hell of a sleeper, but things didn't go down the beater surprise route many old and rusty Transporters choose.
This people-hauler also received the RS4's running gear and, as you can imagine, a ton of fabrication work was required in order to make everything fit.
So, is this VW Group Frankenstein quick enough to be worthy of our attention? Fortunately, the answer is not just positive but also exemplified in the clip, which shows the not-so-commercial-vehicle hitting the drag strip.
The T5 was recently present at the Santa Pod Raceway in the UK, where the 400+ hp machine had its shakedown. The Transporter managed to complete the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds at 99 mph (159 km/h).
The soundtrack of the VW... thing we have here is perhaps even more impressive than its performance, as you'll be able to notice in the video.
To put things into perspective, this puts the van in the same league with a 2006 Dodge Charger R/T, a 1999 Porsche Boxster or a contemporary hot hatch. And since this was the Vee-Dub's first 1,320 feet adventure, you can expect those numbers to be further polished in the near future.
